The Rest of July

Well, since Jill's 2 year old doctor appointment on July 13th, we've had some fun, but we also were lying low because Jill got a nasty cold and then shared it with me. We're just now getting back to our regularly scheduled activities this week. She visited the dentist the day after her doctor appointment, but due to a lack of nap she DID NOT enjoy it. Too bad. No pictures were taken. It was kind of embarrassing because the dentist is a personal friend, but oh well. We'll try again some other time.

We had our weekly pizza night:

Then she played with her purse: "Door yocked, Mama! Need my TEYS in my PEWSE!"

Her hands down favorite thing we did was to visit these two girls. We met them at the park, then went to their house for pizza and fun. This was 2 weeks ago, and she has NOT stopped talking about it since. Everyday she wants to go to their house and repeat everything she did there. It's so funny to me because she has ZERO interest in children her own age, but these 2 older girls are her bestest friends! It's because she thinks she's 12. I just know it. This was a day for the books because JILL SLID SUCCESSFULLY DOWN THE SLIDE FOR THE FIRST TIME!!! Normally she puts her feet out and stops herself or nearly launches herself off of the thing. People think we're overly protective because we hover, but the girl STANDS while going down the slide because she stops so violently. Now she's got it down. YAY!!

The following weekend we went to Fort Steilacoom Park for a dog fundraiser and Jill did some swinging on the best playground I've ever seen. Our little swinger was most interested in just swinging, though she did do some exploring too. It was so funny because she insisted that I swing next to her, and then push her. "You swing, Mom. Now you push me, Mom!" Over and over and over.

Then the next day we went down to Burfoot County Park for Dee and Pop's birthday party. We had a lot of fun there and did tons more swinging. The girl is addicted to the swings!

Jill LOVED this table centerpiece and the stick that she called her "wand."

Next we hung out at home, did some puzzles, and just played.

And finally, we had a little get together at our house with friends, and Jill made cupcakes for everyone!

Here are videos from our last month.
In this one Jill describes in great detail her doctor appointment from two days before.

Two Year Old Doctor Visit

Jill got to have her 2 year wellness visit this morning, and she did VERY well. We've been talking about/playing doctor for a few weeks now, so she knew what to expect and was really happy to be going to the doctor, which was a first for us. She weighed in (with all of her clothes on...not sure why) at 29lbs. 4oz. (79%), is 34.5in. tall (65%), and has a head circumference of 50.3 cm (98%). She handled her two shots really well, though she is super tired now, and she talked up a storm with the doctor. She knew his name, she answered all of his questions, and she complied with every request he made of her. I was so proud!

Afterward we took her out to breakfast at Alki Cafe, where she ate a Mickey Mouse pancake covered in whipped cream. She totally embarrassed us by turning around and telling the woman behind us, "No, MY pantate!" Poor woman had NO idea what was going on, but she was nice about it. Then, Steve asked a waitress a question and Jill said, "Go 'way, Yady!" SO MORTIFIED! I mean, I'm no people lover but I'm always polite! Geez!

Then she and I went to play at the toy store and had a great time. All in all a good morning. Here is a photo of her at breakfast, taken with my phone.

Jill's First Haircut

We have been talking about haircuts for a long time around here. Poor Ernie has endured many a pretend haircut just so Jill would know what to expect. She has always HATED to have anyone cut her hair, especially me. So I decided it was time to pay someone to do it. Jill thrives on knowing what is going to happen next, so she KNEW today was the day. When I got her up this morning she said, "Jill get hay-uh cut, Mama. It now weawwy scawy, Mama. It not." So, I knew she was nervous. We gave Ernie a few more pretend cuts and she was super happy. Then it came time to get dressed. "No get hay-uh cut, Mama. Stay home!' Needless to say, we went anyway. As we were walking up to the salon she asked, "Mama Jill going?" I told her, and again she said, "Hay-uh cut not weawwy scawy, Mama." When we got in she wanted to skip the cut and play with the toys, but I told her she'd have to wait. They asked her to pick out a movie she wanted to watch, but she had already started crying. I picked Peter Pan, she got strapped into a turtle chair, and she BAWLED! Tears, snot, the whole bit. Poor thing, she was shaking! I held her hand, they distracted her with toys and a lollipop, which was the first candy she'd ever had. She wasn't super impressed. When it was over (4 minutes later) she made a beeline for the toy room. Thank goodness for the kids' salon and the patient people who work there!
Bedhead yesterday...proof we NEEDED a cut!

Mama's Birthday

Jill celebrated my birthday with me on Wednesday. She insisted that it was HER birthday, but she did wake my by saying, "Happy Birthday Mama!" Steve didn't even prompt her, she just remembered! She even took time out of swimming in her pool to come and open all of my presents! Thanks to Jill and Steve (and Grammi who babysat) for such a wonderful birthday!

And just for fun...any time you ask Jill if she needs/wants something, and she doesn't, she says, "I'm good."
